Alton Estate

The Highcliffe tower blocks, part of Alton estate, are strongly inspired by Le Corbusier’s Unite d’ Habitation, Marseille. Designed by Rosemary Stjernstedt, pioneering female British architect, it opened in 1958. The block’s unapologetic geometry and concrete facade made them ideal backdrop for dystopian Fahrenheit 451. The buildings are now Grade II* Listed.
